We hope you've all had a wonderful Christmas and new year, we certainly did and now we're looking forward to 2007 - A new year and an exciting line up of exhibitions and events for kitch-en:
Conflict Machine by Chris Menes
Also featuring 'Samples' - an installation by Hookers Green

Chris Menes artist statement:
I do not like to write too much about my artwork, preferring instead that the viewer come to his or her own conclusions.
It is important for me that all my work has a strong visual impact. I believe in arts power to convey meaning but I am primarily concerned with its ability to create a sensory experience in the viewer. I take inspiration from a range of sources including technology, biology, graffiti, science-fiction, electronic music, Japanese anime/manga, contemporary architecture and graphic design.
I work both with computers and with more traditional forms such as painting, drawing and collage, often combining then to create my intended image. The results can be seen as abstract collisions of digital and organic forms. An ambiguous and fluctuating visual language to describe our hyper-modern world
This show covers a variety of work made over the last year.

Climate of Consciousness Group Exhibition by CCAD
Monday 12th - 24th February. Private view Monday 12th February 6-8pm. All are welcome, free wine and cheese for all guests.
The group mission statement:
Our aim is to raise awareness of personal concerns creating a dialogue which extends beyond the art world and into society. Our work draws on experiences relating to sensations which characterise our personality and temperament.
The exhibition features recent works by Sarah Jones, Gavin Lenaghan, Adam Murphy, Mark Fieldsend, Jennifer Draper and Graeme Clark.
Voices - a WMDJ project sponsored by The DigitalCity
Monday 26th Feb - Saturday 17th March.
The WMDJ project brings together the talents of international songwriter Steve Thompson, poet Tom Kelly and photographer Peter Dixon. Voices is the team's first public display and documents several year's worth of material. The multimedia installation's gritty social realism is sure to be a big hit with local audiences, with the Kitch-en exhibition kick starting a 12 month tour which will stop of at art galleries and museums right across the region.
Due to the success of the first Hodgepodge Market in December we have decided to make the market a regular monthly fixture at 2 ZERO 2 to be held on the first Saturday of the month. (Feb 3rd, March 3rd...)
What? Hodgepodge Market - 11 Stalls selling a mixture of fashion, design, art, crafts & more...
Where? Bar 2 ZERO 2, 201 - 203 Linthorpe Road, Middlesbrough. (Opposite Sainsbury's and TS1)
When? Saturday 3rd January, 12 - 4pm.
Why? It's the perfect opportunity to find great unique and affordable items made by local artists/designers/makers. It's also a cool place to grab a coffee and a bite to eat as 2 ZERO 2 has just relaunched it's menu - now serving a range of great tasting Tapas dishes from just £1.50.

Arteest has delved into the world of vintage and produced a range of simple t-shirt designs featuring classic products from times gone by. Every T-shirt is a complete one-off, with hand sewn details and hand printed stencil designs. The range is set to increase to include everything from vintage telephones to hoovers. FEATURED MAG OF THE MONTH: THE CHAP:
We have a great range of creative and cool magazines stocked here at kitch-en but many of you may not know what these magazines are all about. That's why we've decided to do a little feature on a magazine each month and show you what's what. This month we're throwing the spotlight onto the only gentleman's quarterly out there - THE CHAP!
So What is it?

Our good friend Sarah Miskelly, a.k.a Miskellaneous needs your help.
She has designed a character that is currently in a showdown online at Mojizu. She could really do with your votes to help her win the SUPER MATCH.

THE CHAPS@PLAY, THE EMPIRE 20/01/2007:
Kitch-en are continuing to work in partnership with Ten Feet Tall to bring some kitch-en creativity to their flagship night 'Play' at The Empire, Middlesbrough on a Saturday night.
Every few weeks you'll be able to catch The Chaps from kitch-en at Play, Lording it up and creating an artistic stir. No more details can be revealed here, you'll just have to come along and see for yourself.
