Currently Exhibiting: 'Cotton' By Ged Holmes 07/09/2006

'Cotton' is a collection of 5 pieces produced by threading fine cotton through canvas. It includes the piece 'Constant Craving' which entailed threading almost 1 Km of cotton through a 1m x 1m canvas.

So not to influence the audience's perception and view of his work, Ged does not give an insight into his thought process other than the title. He wants the viewer to be intrigued and puzzled by each piece, and as a result, persuades their own imagination to reflect on his work.

'Cotton' is exhibiting now at kitch-en art gallery, 46 Montrose St, Middlesbrough until 30th September. All works are for sale and range from £90 to £1400.

For more details on Ged Holmes and examples of his work check out his online gallery: www.kitch-en.co.uk/gallery/ged_holmes

Next months exhibition will be 'The World Of Arteest' by Arteest.
"A central element to Arteest's work are the family of characters he uses as a means of communicating feelings and thoughts on local and global issues. 'The World Of Arteest' is the first ever showcase of all of these characters". Watch this space for more information.

Swap Shop - A Monthly Night Of Swapsies 5th Sept 2006

Kitch-en held their first ever Swap Shop on Tuesday 29th August. With little notice we didn't expect a huge turnout, but it was a great time had by all in the end. It was a pilot event really to see what people's reception to the idea was like. We're pleased to say that it was received well and we've been urged by many to do it again, so we are now going to make it a regular monthly event.
THE LAST TUESDAY OF EVERY MONTH, 5PM - 7PM, 46 MONTROSE STREET!!
So what is Swap Shop? I hear you say:
The idea is simple: Bring something along to swap - from an old t-shirt to a business card or a service, meet others with things to swap, barter and exchange goods. It's like a trading/networking event but the emphasis is to have lots of fun and go back home with something more valuable to you than what you came with.

Kitch-en at 'Make Your Own Damn Art World' 5th Sept 2006

Kitch-en made good their promise of attending mima's 'MAKE YOUR OWN DAMN ART WORLD' artist fair on Sunday 3rd September. The event was a one day offsite project presented by mima with the artist Bob And Roberta Smith and was held in the mima gardens and surrounding central Square.
We had a very enjoyable day despite the wind trying to steal all of our fab artwork and merchandise. In total we earned 150 tokens of respect but unfortunately this wasn't enough to out do the competition on the day. But we did make many cash sales and had lots of interested people so that was better than the silly bits of paper respect tokens anyway :-D Just as the Teletubby's say "AGAIN, AGAIN AGAIN!!"

Swap Shop - Let's Swap, Party & Have Fun 24th August 2006

We're back in fighting spirit with another super party for all to enjoy.

The idea: Bring some goods, meet people with stuff you want and swap em. Bring a bottle, enjoy a drink and have some fun!
Spread the word to all your good friends, the more the merrier! We look forward to seeing you all and doing some swapsies.

For further info please contact us through the usual routes. If you're having trouble finding us check out the online map here.

Kitch-en Official Launch Party: Great Success 2nd August 2006

On Tuesday August 1st 2006, between 5 and 8pm, kitch-en's Gallery | Studio | Shop was transformed from an empty 'white cube space' into a multicoloured spectrum of people all gathering to celebrate it's official opening. It was a huge success with over 80 people joining us throughout the evening.
It wasn't only an opportunity to see the gallery and artwork on display by kitch-en but also a chance to create - with felt tips in hand, many guests contributed to the free wall, which, by the end of the night, presented a magnificent muddle of scrawls and scribbles. We are now in the process of photographing the artwork and producing a limited edition book documenting the night, which will be available soon...
The party continued down at Rouge, where Moshine Mix hosted another one of their fantastic interdisciplinary arts nights to celebrate the end of the first season of MAP events.

Kitch-en would like to say thanks to: Python Properties, for all the work they put in, without which, we would not have such a great looking space. To Cafe Sassari, for providing the complimentary drinks on the night, which went down very well with all the guests. To Middlesbrough Council especially the Arts Development Team, who's continuing support helps us to progress. And a very special thank you to all those that came down to support us on the night, we hope to see you again soon.
To all those that couldn't make it down, we hope to see you sometime in the future, there will be many more events throughout the year.
